Mobile App Security Testing: frequently asked questions

What do you need to test our mobile app?

The APK or IPA build (a staging build is fine), test accounts for each role and access to a test backend. For iOS we can also test through TestFlight builds.

Do you test both the app and the backend?

Yes. Many serious mobile issues sit in the APIs behind the app, so every mobile engagement includes testing the APIs the app uses, not just the app binary.

Is testing done on real devices?

We use real rooted Android and jailbroken iOS devices plus emulators, which lets us test storage, runtime tampering and certificate pinning under realistic conditions.

Is security testing required for Play Store or App Store approval?

It is not an approval requirement, but fixing issues such as exposed secrets, insecure storage and weak network security protects your users and ratings and reduces policy risks.
